It is not just a webshop with a login

The common misconception is that a wholesale webshop is a regular webshop with a login and hidden prices. In B2B there is no single price for an item.

That is why a wholesale portal cannot stand alone. It must read from the system where those prices already live, the ERP.

What a wholesale webshop must have

The minimum that separates a real B2B portal from a webshop with a login:

  • Price per customer or customer class, pulled from the ERP, not typed in.
  • Real stock levels, so sales stops answering the do you have any left question.
  • Credit limit and outstanding balance, visible before ordering.
  • Multiple business units per customer, switchable in one click.
  • Ordering on a buyer's behalf so a rep can take over their context.
  • Reordering from history, because a B2B buyer orders the same things repeatedly.
  • Order write-back to the ERP without duplicates on resend.

Where wholesalers usually get stuck

Not on technology, but on business rules nobody wrote down. Who gets which discount, what happens when a customer exceeds a limit, whether they can order out of stock items, who approves exceptions.

That is why the documentation phase is not bureaucracy but the cheapest part of the project.

Moving off the phone and e-mail

Partners do not move to a portal because it looks good, but because it beats waiting for a reply. Adoption is easiest when the portal first covers the most frequent action, reordering the same items.

In practice the sales team does not lose work, it loses waiting. Instead of retyping orders they work with buyers who actually need a conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with our ERP?
If the ERP has an API or any export, yes. We run KIS and KISERP integrations in production.
Can we keep our existing webshop?
Yes. A B2B portal is often added as a separate layer alongside an existing retail webshop.
Can customers see each other's prices?
No. Each customer sees only their own pricing, fetched by their class from the ERP after login.
How long does it take?
2 to 5 weeks, provided the business rules are known and the ERP data is accessible.
