Building a webshop is not one product but a range. The same sentence can mean a thirty item store or a wholesale portal with three thousand items, per customer pricing and an ERP connection.
What can be said is which factor drives which part of the cost. That is more useful than a single number.
Three realistic ranges
In Croatia in 2026 the ranges look roughly like this, for agency or studio work, excluding advertising and content:
- Off-the-shelf platform (Shopify, WooCommerce with a theme): low thousands. Fast and cheap, but your catalogue adapts to the platform.
- Custom webshop with ERP integration: mid thousands. Stock and pricing come from the ERP, variants grouped the way a buyer thinks.
- B2B wholesale portal: high thousands. Per customer pricing, credit limits, multiple business units, ordering on a buyer's behalf.
What actually drives cost
Design is rarely the expensive part. The expensive part is everything that touches your existing data: how many items the ERP holds, how many variants, whether the codes are clean, whether there is an API or only a nightly export.
The second big factor is languages and markets, the third is payment methods, the fourth is how much the owner wants to change without calling a developer.
The hidden cost nobody budgets
Manual work after launch. If someone retypes orders into the ERP or updates stock by hand every day, that cost runs forever and usually exceeds the price difference between a cheap and a serious build within the first year.
How to compare two quotes
Ask every quote the same questions: where prices and stock come from, where the order ends up, who maintains the catalogue, what happens when the ERP is unavailable, and what you can change yourself.
